On 17th March 1970, the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO) was established under the Indian Companies Act, 1956. Its mission was to develop Navi Mumbai as a sustainable, planned alternative to the overcrowded city of Mumbai.
